Intel Pentium P6200 Dual Core Processor Review-2.13GHz
Intel Pentium P6200 dual core processor is latest dual core Pentium processor from Intel. The processor operates with 2.13 GHz frequency. Similar to Pentium P6100 it also comes with 3MB of L3 cache which is shared by both cores dynamically. Intel termed it as smart cache.
For an example, the one core of Pentium P6200 processor doesn't need cache and the other one has higher cache requirement, then the later core can utilize entire (100%) cache memory. Thus, over all performance will increase. The processor is intended for entry-level to mid-level laptop. The TDP of the Intel Pentium dual core P6200 processor is 35 watt
Intel Pentium processor P6200 features
The Intel Pentium processor P6200 is based on Westmere architecture fabricated with 32nm technology. There is an integrated graphics associated with processor but in separate die and graphics die fabricated with 45nm technology. However, PCI express support is there for supporting external graphics or other external hardware.
In P6200 Pentium processor requirement of FSB or front side bus is removed by high speed DMI bus which connects processor directly with other Chips. The data transfer rate of DMI is 2.5 GT/s. Pentium P6200 processor connects with memory directly via integrated dual channel memory controller. This feature helps to minimize memory latency; also make the whole thing compact than earlier Pentium T4500 other dual core Pentium processors. Intel P6200 processor support only DDR3-800 or DDR3-1066 and max memory supported is 8GB
Intel Pentium P6200 dual core processor houses in PGA988 socket, the processor die size is 81mm square. The number of transistor in processor die is 382 million. The graphics die size is 114 mm square. It has integrated FPU or floating point unit. The clock multiplier is 16x.
When comes to advance technologies Intel Pentium P6200 has support for Intel 64 bits which means it can run 64 bit application (there should be other compatibility), enhanced Speed-step technology for low power consumption. Intel fast memory access helps to reduce memory latency. Execute disable bit helps to prevent execution of malicious code.
The disadvantage of the Intel Pentium P6200 processor is it doesn't support virtualization.
Performance of Intel Pentium P6200
Intel Pentium P6200 is decent processor for typing, browsing internet, watching video editing video and photo ( even in HD format), listening HD audio. As it comes with Intel HD graphics so there is restriction in gaming. You can play basic games and 3D or flash games as wel,l but in low resolution and low details. You can play game like world of warcraft, COD 4 modern warfare and sims 3. If you are hard core games then choose with i5 processor with at least ATI 5000 series or good Nvidia graphics.
Comparison with other Intel Graphics and AMD graphics
Now comparing with Intel core i3-370M or i3-380M, Intel Pentium P6200 delivers lower performance than those two processors. The main reason is both processors come with Hyperthreading technology by which each core can run two threads parallel
When compare with AMD Turion II P540 or P560 processors, Pentium P6200 processor is almost equivalent to them from performance aspect. However, AMD Turion II P540 or P560 comes with virtualization technology which supports dual booting.
